California grape stock up 50% in October

As of October 15 some 12.8 million cartons of grapes are stored in California, 50% more than at the same time last year.

During the last few weeks the grape harvest has picked up speed bringing with it a jump in stock inventories.

According to the Inventory report by fruit industry analyst firm iQonsulting, Red Globe accounted for 25% of the stock and the harvest continues parallel to Crimson and other late varieties whose stored volumes continue to increase compared to September 30 of this year. For its part Thompson grapes hold with an inventory of 1.5 million cartons, 78% more than in 2009.

Moreover, rains experienced in week 40 did not have much impact on the fruit’s condition as a large portion of the growing areas were covered with plastic.
