New Zealand pushing new free trade deals to promote exports

New Zealand’s government is pursuing new free trade agreements, above all with the United States, to promote its exports, local paper National Business Review reported.

According to the report, New Zealand is looking to replicate the success it has found through trade with China, expand past its current main export partner Australia and sign a deal with the United States.

Negotiations with the US are under the auspice of the Trans Pacific Partnership which also includes Australia, Brunei, Chile, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

Outside of the U.S,. New Zealand has also targeted Middle Eastern nations including Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Although an agreement was reached last year, the agreement awaits ratification in New Zealand.
