Guatemala expects up to 12% increase in agriculture exports in 2011

Guatemala's export of non-traditional agricultural products could increase by 10% to 12% in 2011, according to local news website Prensa Libre.

Citing numbers from the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport in Spanish), exports in 2011 could be valued at US $998.8 million, up from US $911 million in 2010, the website reported.

Among the best-selling products in 2010 were fresh and prepared fruits, with sales of US $449.4 million. Vegetables and beans came in third with US $159.6 million.

Agexport is looking to add more growers to export ranks, according to Ricardo Santa Cruz, coordinator of agriculture commission, the website said.
