Southern Hemisphere pear exports to rise 7.7% in 2011
Total pear exports from the Southern Hemisphere are expected to rise by 7.7% to 772,000 metric tonnes (MT) in 2011, according to Chilean market analysis company iQonsulting.
This volume is still less than the 779,714MT reached in 2009, but the three major providers of Chile, Argentina and South Africa will still have higher production than in 2010.
South Africaās pear exports are expected to rise by just 2.5% to 187,000MT while Argentina and Chile are expected to boost exports by 7.9% and 15% respectively.
But IQonsulting said Argentina might not be able to reach this amount due to climatic conditions which havenāt been āoptimalā and might result in a smaller crop.
The market consulting company predicts Chile will export 132,000MT while Argentina will export 453,000MT.
