SA exports first Barlinka grapes to Japan

The South African Table Grape Industry (SAT) has announced the country's first Barlinka grape exports to Japan are expected to arrive in Tokyo on May 7.

After waiting 25 years to access the market, the South African industry passed Japan's phytosanitary tests and the first shipments were expected to leave Cape Town on Apr. 9.

"It is hoped that Japan will open the market to other varieties in the near future," SATI said in a release.

SATI says the final Crimson, Scarlotta and Dauphine grape varieties were packed in week 13, while Hex Valley packing activities will finish in around four weeks.
