Colombia eyes organic food market

Colombian trade promotion organization Proexport says global demand for the country's organic food products bodes well for 2012, website Portafolio.com.co reported.

The organization highlighted opportunities for Colombia's emerging organic sector to take advantage of global sales which grew 20% last year, the story reported.

Ana Gabriela Mejía from exporter Caribbean Exotics, told the website the market was going in the direction of organics, so that's where Colombia needed to go.

The story reported projected organic sales increases of 44.7% in the U.S. in 2012, with growth forecasts of 45.6% and 13.7% in the U.K. and Germany respectively.
