New citrus varieties developed in Brazil
Brazilian company Embrapa Hortaliças has released two new citrus varieties that will be available to producers, website Revistagloborural.globo.com reported. 
The company said the first variety was the Navelina orange which is characterized by the presence of a navel, while it will also sell seeds of Ortanique mandarins, the story reported.
The Ortanique was first discovered by growers in Jamaica in 1920, which is slightly flattened and grows to a medium size.
The story reported the Ortanique's hard skin has large amounts of oil and is slightly rough, which favors transportation over long distances.
The company sees high potential for the two cultivars in the domestic market, as oranges and mandarins are among the most consumed fruit in the country.
