New isolated priority zone for NZ kiwifruit vine disease

New Zealand's Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) has announced a new Priority Zone for kiwifruit vine disease Psa-V, almost 40km (24.8 miles) away from existing areas.

The decision was made after a Psa-V positive result was found on a Green kiwifruit orchard in Waihi, leading to the new Priority Zone south of Waihi town and a 'High Risk Area' declaration for the entire Waihi region.

The adjustments encompasses 30 KPIN (Kiwifruit Property Identification Number) properties in the Waihi Priority Zone and 19 in the Waihi High Risk Area, covering around 190 hectares of orchards.

The declaration takes the total tally of Priority Zones to three in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty, with the areas in Tauranga and Te Puke.
