Peru's August avocado exports hit $US22M

Peru's total agricultural exports increased in August by more than 35% to the tune of US$226.2 million, aided by high consumer demand for avocadoes, website Agraria.pe reported.

Non-traditional agricultural exports came to $US158.9 million, showing year-on-year growth of 25.4%, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI).

The increase was partly due to higher exports of fresh and dried avocadoes (US$22 million), prepared or preserved artichokes (US$7.5 million)  whole paprikas (US$6 million) and other preparations used for animal feed (US$6.7 million).

The main importers of these products were the U.S., Spain, Holland, Ecuador, the U.K., Colombia and France.

In the traditional export sector coffee also did well, reaching US$48.9 million in value with Germany accounting for a third of all imports.
