Drought to affect Mexico's orange crops in Tamaulipas

Orange production in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas could fall by a third due to lack of rainfall, website Enlineadirecta.info reported.

Mexican Citrus Council President Ausencia Mata Medina, said Valencia orange crops would be the worst hit, although lemon and grapefruit production would be largely unaffected.

"In all citrus will decrease by 25% and 30% in comparison with what we got last year," he was quoted as saying.

However, Mata Medina told the website reduced harvests would mean prices were set to rise.
