Argentina's Río Negro region saw its fruit exports plummet by 77% in the first month of this year, according to northern Patagonia port statistics.

Total shipments at the end of January were just 3,535 metric tons (MT) compared with 15,421MT the previous year.

There were no exports of apples and nectarines while the previous year the figure was 262MT and 22MT respectively. Meanwhile, plum shipments were just 70MT compared with 203MT in 2011.

Pear and grape shipments totalled 2,499MT and 1,016MT in January compared with 13,465MT and 1,469MT the previous year.

Concentrated juice exports did well at 4,886MT compared with the previous four seasons when there were no exports of this product in January.
