Honduran pineapple and banana exports rose significantly in the first quarter of 2012, website Latribuna.hn reported.

The story reported a 39% year-on-year rise in banana export volumes with a total value of $130.2 million for the period, due to improved yields, fertilization, control of disease Black Sigatoka, and an average price rise of 11.4%.

Pineapple export values rose 30% year-on-year at US$5.7 million for the period.

Total agricultural exports hit US$215.1 million, driven also by shipments of melons and watermelons.
