Costa Rica’s agricultural exports grew by 1.7% year-on-year to US$1.71 billion during the first eight months of 2012, according to statistics from the country’s foreign trade promotion agency PROCOMER.

Strong rises for coffee, pineapple and palm oil shipments were partly offset by a large fall in banana  exports.

The data shows pineapple exports were up 8.4% year-on-year at US$528.1 million, coffee shipments rose by 18.4% to US$361.8 million, while palm oil exports rose by 10% to US$144.9 million.

However, banana exports dropped by 11% to US$453 million and the figure for melons fell by 1.7% to US$65.7 million.
