Citrus Australia backs National Food Plan

Industry body Citrus Australia has issued its support for a National Food Plan that brings a "sound long term direction" focused on growing exports, while coordinating policy and activities from trade, industry, education, health, environment and agriculture departments. clementines_67148710 small

The organization said it hoped to partner with the Federal Government to fast-track export market access and building trade in new Asian markets.

"Our submissions and input into the National Food Plan has focused on growing exports so we are pleased to see extra funding initiatives for overseas agricultural specialists and market access liaison officers to better engage with industry," CEO Judith Damiani said in a release.

She added it was also important to reduce red tape and reduce costs to be more competitive internationally.

"The introduction of the carbon tax in an example of power costs unnecessarily increasing by up to 25%, right through the cold chain, and more to come with the removal of heavy transport support next year.

"Let’s get on with transforming the mining boom into the dining boom."
