Argentine blueberry shipments to start next week

The Tucuman Institute of Productive Development (IDEP) expects the first blueberry air freight shipments of the season to take off next week, website Lv12.com.ar reported. blueberry punnets small

IDEP export promotions technician Fernando Martorell told the website that last year's volume from the province could be exceeded.

"It [first flight] is forecastĀ  for the week of the Sep. 23-26 - this comes from meetings that we held last week with all the airlines that will operate this year," Martorell was quoted as saying.

"The idea is to surpass the quantity of fruit exported last year," he said, mentioning that Tucuman blueberries were sent on 71 flights last season.

Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) general manager Ines PelƔez told www.freshfruitportal.com the national export volume would be down 1% this year, with lower volumes of early season fruit due to frost impacts.
