Although the local market will take priorty, the fruit is also being prepared for export, explained Promango president Ɓngel Gamarra.

Currently the organization is sending samples to different locations to promote the product in international markets. Key exports markets include Europe, the United States and Chile.

"[This offering] is available because, as exporters of fresh mangoes, we have fruit that is not utilized in the pack houses and in the fields. It is fundamental for us to add value," Gamarra said.

"We will focus mainly on the local market, which has a deficit of this product in particular. We will provide it in stores like Tottus, Metro and Plaza Vea, among others."

Gamarra added that the product also comes with GlobalGAP and HACCP certifications.

The initial investment for the product has been more than US$100,000 to produce and dry the fruit.

"We have invested around US$150,000 in infrastructure. The 16 hectares of terrain belongs to Promango. We will install a germplasm bank for mangoes there. We hope to win over the market this year with a top quality product," Gamarra said.

"We still need ovens for dehydrating to produce more attractive volumes. We are also building a chamber to store the product."

With the installation of dehydrating ovens, Promango estimates that it will be able to produce 5 tons (MT) for export a month.
