U.K. packaging company expands into Mexico

British company Sirane Food Packaging has partnered up with Mexico-based Jifkins to distribute its products in Central America, with a particular focus on fruit exports, seafood and microwave cooking solutions.

"Jifkins are a perfect fit with Sirane. They are forward thinking and innovative and able to take Sirane’s product range into new markets," said Sirane managing director Simon Balderson in a release.

"They have the experience, drive and determination to make this a very productive partnership and we look forward to helping them to grow the business in Mexico."

Josua Vega, who worked with Sirane on the link-up, said the team at Jifkins couldn’t wait to get started on selling the British company’s products.

Vega said a large proportion of blackberries sold in Europe came from Mexico, which highlighted the importance Sirane’s postharvest products could have in generating wealth and prosperity for rural families.

"The production of berries - strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry - generates eight jobs per hectare from exports to the North American market and European countries."

One of Jifkins initial projects will be to introduce a new product about to be unveiled by Sirane that is perfect for the transportation of berries.

"Sirane’s latest innovation – which has come following years of developmental work with the soft-fruit industry – will change the way soft-fruit is packaged worldwide," Vega said.

"The potential for this product in Mexico is immense," Balderson added.
