Peruvian grape growth could rise in 2014

Peruvian consultancy Maximixe has forecast a 30% year-on-year increase in the country's grape production in 2014, which is expected to reach an estimated 549,100 metric tons (MT). uvas_80326546 small

The group added that greater investment in crop management techniques in growing regions like Lima, Ica and Piura would lead to higher yields from grape vines, at 25.6MT/ha compared to the current 21MT/ha.

Maximixe expects the growth rate for exports will be even greater at 33%, hitting a value of US$631.5 million from 245,000MT of product sent.

The growth rates for production and exports in 2013 are set to be 26.3% and 28.8% respectively.
