U.S.: New Jersey facility anticipates Peruvian fruit arrivals

In response to supply growth from Peru, California's Mission Produce announced a new 100,000-square foot fruit distribution and processing facility in Swedesboro, New Jersey.missionproduce

The avocado distributor's multi-million dollar facility includes 360 ripe pallet spaces, 4,500 cooler pallet spaces and 23 insulated dock doors.

Located in the company's main location for Peruvian fruit imports, the facility will cater to arrivals from the South American nation, explained distribution and logistics vice president, Jeremy Currier.

"The purpose of the move to the new facility is all about growth, operational expansion and projected sales increases," Currier said.

"During the Peruvian season, which runs from May to September, we anticipate 25 containers per day which equates to over 200 loads per week."

The facility will also have to capacity to process fruits for other companies, including bagging, repacking, fumigation and forced air cooling.
