Chilean apples approved for new ports in China
Chilean apples have been approved for import through six Chinese ports. Chinese authorities suspended entrance of the product in October following detections of Neofabraea alba, the cause of lenticel rot in apples.
The Chilean Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) has announced the fruit would now be permitted for import through Ningbo, Shantou (Guangdong), Foshan (Guangdong), Fanyu (Guangdong), Zhongshan (Guangdong) and Dachanwan (Shenzhen).
Other approved entry points are Dalian, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nansha (Guangdong), Shekou (Shenzhen), Yantian (Shenzhen) and Huangpu (Guangdong).
In January, Chilean authorities met in Beijing with China's Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), Sofofa reported.
The meeting sought to reestablish apple shipments to China by the beginning of Chile's Royal Gala harvest in February.
Other apple suppliers that have been blocked from China due to phytosanitary concerns include the United States and New Zealand.
