Mexico's Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has declared two municipalities in the central state of Morelos to be free of the avocado seed borer. 

In a notice published on the country's official gazette Diario Oficial, the municipalities of Tetela de Volcán and Yecapixtla were declared free of the pests Heilipus Lauri, Conotrachelus Aguacate, C. Perseae and Stenoma Catenifer.

SAGARPA said the declaration strengthened objectives to improve the phytosanitary statuses of the country's avocado-growing regions.

The declaration will give these two municipalities greater competitiveness, through the ability to move and trade their avocados more easily with good commercial windows in both domestic and international markets.
