Produce World Group executive chairman Neil Fraser made the announcement in a press release, explaining the benefits of purchasing the company which supplies organic root vegetables to the retail and foodservice sectors.

"The acquisition of TIO is a natural fit for Produce World, which is already a leader in the UK organic vegetable market. We believe that this will provide greater security both for suppliers and customers," Fraser said.

"It will allow us to secure the future of valuable organic land and the expertise of the Scottish organic growers who supply TIO.

"We will be able to secure the largest possible geographical footprint of our organic supply base and therefore the longest possible domestic growing season."

TIO Ltd is one of the largest growers of organic carrots in Europe, supplying ten months of the year from Scottish farms and working with grower partners in England and Italy to provide a crop between late June and August, therefore ensuring year-round supply.

Alongside carrots, parsnips and swede also form part of it core range with root vegetables exported to Ireland, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Germany.

Domestically the company supplies grocery retailers including Tesco, online supermarket Ocado, Whole Foods Market and Planet Organic.

In the release, TIO Ltd owner William Rose described Produce World as a 'pioneer in organic vegetables’ and said that becoming part of the group will expand the market for Scottish organic carrots in particular.
