Chile: frosts may lead to varied situation for blueberry exports, says CBC

The Chilean Blueberry Committee (CBC) has called for close contact between exporters and importers in light of recent frosts, which it says extended from the VI (O'Higgins) to IX (Araucania) regions. shutterstock_24959644 blueberries panorama arandanos

In its latest update, the committee says the phenomenon was not widespread and while some growers could be very affected, the situation in general was able to be controlled.

"The reduction in the production and export of blueberries will not be significant," the CBS says.

"At the level of exporters the situation could be varied, especially because of the fragmentation of supply that the industry currently exhibits.

"Therefore, the contact between exporters and importers should be very close to establish the real impact for every company...the variations in the reduction of export volume could extend between zero and 15, something that companies should confirm in the coming days when the level of fruit set will be able to be observed more clearly."

The committee concludes that expectations continue for a good season in terms of fruit development with great eating quality.

"In fact, observations in terms of the size of varieties that are up next for harvest are promising," the committee says.
