Continuing with a series of market and product developments throughout 2014, fruit supplier BanaBay is adding mangoes to its tropical fruit portfolio.

Demand from existing and new customers globally has driven the decision to include mangoes in the company's fruit basket, following on from the launch of pineapples in April.

Various varieties will be sourced from Ecuador, Peru and Mexico to ensure consistent supply and quality.

BanaBay managing director Mark O’Sullivan says the group is pursuing new mango business opportunities generated at the events Asia Fruit Logistica and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit.

"We have visited all the plantations involved, which produce the most popular varieties of mangoes," managing director Mark O'Sullivan said in a release.

"Having audited their processes I am confident we can deliver the quality of fruit our customers expect from BanaBay, backed by our usual high level service agreement."

Mango trials are underway in Australasia and the latest addition represents the next milestone in a continued growth for BanaBay, which supplies around 145 containers of bananas a week internationally, according to the release.

Earlier this year the company opened operations in Shanghai, started a new deal to supply bananas to a Libyan-based importer and began supplying organic Cavendish bananas from Ecuador to the U.K. market.

A new line of baby bananas BanaBino will be showcased alongside the new mangoes during next year’s Fruit Logistica event in Berlin.
