Australian table grape industry calls for quick resolution to Vietnam fruit blockade

An Australian table grape industry representative says the recently closed Vietnamese market is vital for black seedless cultivars, prompting the need for an urgent solution, media agency the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported. black grapes sq

"It would be very difficult to find a home for those varieties in other export markets, so it's important that we get this resolved very quickly, which I know the Australian government is working on," Australian Table Grape Association chief executive Jeff Scott told the ABC.

"It is going to put a lot of pressure on those growers if we can't get access back into Vietnam.

"There could be the potential that growers can't sell their grapes."

He told the publication the industry shipped AUD$32 million (US$25.8 million) worth of table grapes to Vietnam last year, and he was hopeful the market could be re-opened as the sector had sufficient information on the South East Asian country's main concern - Mediterranean fruit fly.
