In a weekly report, the group noted the numbers are down on the same period last year, when the industry had shipped around 2,239 containers to overseas markets.

APEM said the main destinations for fresh mango exports were the Netherlands and the U.S., each with a 32% representation, followed by England (11%), Canada (7%), Germany (5%), Chile (5%), Spain (2%) and Switzerland (2%).

The industry body said 30 mango packing plants were currently in operation in Peru, of which eight had hot water systems treatment certification for the U.S., and three were certified for the Japanese market.

Agropacking and Dominus have led the way for treated volumes with 11% each, followed by Pacífico, Biofruit and Empafrut with 10% each.

"According to a survey conducted at hot water treatment plants for the U.S., 180 containers were processed during week 3 for that destination. A similar amount will be processed in week 4, with an outlook to decline in week 5 and onwards," the report said.

"100% of the fruit that will come in week 3 is from the department of Piura."

APEM said the leading importer of fresh mangoes from Peru up until week 2 was Nature's Pride (8%), followed by Amazon Produce (5%) and Bratzler & Co. (4%).

In terms of exporters, Dominus has led the way so far this year, followed by Sunshine Export, Camposol, Tropical Fruit Trading and Asica Natural.
