Yesterday afternoon, Teamsters Local 202 announced its 1,300 members at the market would be voting on the tentative deal on Wednesday.

"Our members stood strong and the market knew we were serious," said Teamsters Local 202 president Daniel Kane Jr.

"We said we deserved a fair wage, we fought for it and we got it."

The announcement said the merchants raised their wage offer after a strike vote earlier last week.

"We were boosted by the support of our elected officials and everyday New Yorkers," Kane said.

"It's getting harder and harder to get by in this city. People really rallied around these workers demanding a wage that their families can live on."

In a statement, Hunts Point Produce Cooperative spokesperson Robert Leonard said the group was happy both sides were able to come together to reach a tentative agreement to avoid an unnecessary walkout.

"At the end of the day, discussions resulted in a fair package which goes a long way towards addressing the issues raised by management and labor," Leonard said.
