Mexico: Fresh Produce Social Responsibility Alliance incorporates two new members

A consortium established to set better agricultural labor practices on Mexican farms now covers 70% of the country's fruit and vegetable exports, with the recent addition of Aneberries and the Association of Table Grape Producers. shutterstock_132911189 - berries white panorama

Mario Robles, who was instrumental in the formation of the tentatively named 'Fresh Produce Social Responsibility Alliance', told www.freshfruitportal.com he was seeking out more members for the progressive group.

"We are making efforts to incorporate the greatest amount of possible associations; in Mexico there are other groups of growers who are also from the fruit and vegetable sector and they export, and we are attempting to contact them so that they join," said Robles, who is the director of Sinaloaā€™s Confederation of Agribusiness Associations (CAADES).

"It is clear that from the start we won't have everyone.

"The idea is that all the grower groups that are informally constituted can become part of the alliance."

Earlier this month, Robles spoke in-depth with usĀ  about some of the initiative's specific endeavors to improve affordability in company stores and eradicate child labor.

The business leader is still aiming for an official launch of the alliance some time this month.

"I cannot commit to that as it depends on many factors but we want it to happen in January. This alliance has to start working," he said.
