U.S.: Dole recalls salads amid Salmonella concerns

Dole Fresh Vegetables has announced it is voluntarily recalling a limited number of cases of bagged spinach, due to a possible health risk from Salmonella. salmonella

No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall, and the company said it was coordinating closely with regulatory officials.

The salads were distributed in 13 U.S. states: Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin.

According to Dole Fresh Vegetables, the recall notification is being issued due to an 'isolated instance' in which a sample of Dole Spinach salad yielded a positive result for Salmonella in a random sample test conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development's Laboratory Division.

The product being recalled is Dole Spinach coded A27409B & A27409A, with an Enjoy By date of Oct. 15 and UPC 7143000976.

Neither Baby Spinach nor any other salads are included in the recall.

The organization also said consumers who had any remaining salad with these Product Codes should discard it. Retailers and consumers with questions may call the Dole Food Company Consumer Response Center.

Dole Fresh Vegetables customer service representatives are already contacting retailers and are in the process of confirming that the recalled product is being removed from the stream of commerce.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause foodborne illness in a person who eats a food item contaminated with it. Symptoms of infection may include fever and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting or abnormal pain.
