U.S.: ConAgra takes action after CRF Frozen Foods recall

ConAgra Foods is voluntarily recalling a range of vegetable products, citing potential for Listeria contamination as some items contained vegetables included in the CRF Frozen Foods recall.

The company said it was recalling the brand'sĀ Watts Brothers Farms Organic Mixed Vegetables, Organic Super Sweet Corn (Yellow/Gold), and Organic Peas, as well asĀ Trader Joeā€™s Organic Super Sweet Corn.

CRF's voluntary recall includes around 360Ā organic and non-organic frozen fruits and vegetables, and the company has been cooperating with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In a release, ConAgra explainedĀ Listeria monocytogenes was an organism that couldĀ cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

ConAgra said no illnesses to date had been reported for the products listed.

"Products covered by this recall were distributed in the U.S. Watts Brothers Farms products were sold at Costco and Trader Joeā€™s products were sold at Trader Joeā€™s," ConAgra said.

"Consumers who have purchased these items are advised to discard them or return them to the store where originally purchased. ConAgra Foods is working with its customers to ensure the packages are removed from store shelves and are no longer distributed."
