Shipping route boosts connection for Spanish fruit exporters

Shipping company OPDR is introducing a new route to better connect Spanish fruit and vegetable exporters with northern European markets.

The subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group is to launch the new CAVA service on June 7.

It will connect Valencia and Cartagena with European ports including Tilbury in England, St.Petersburg, Antwerp and Rotterdam, and increase OPDR's weekly sailings from the Iberian Peninsula to 23 per week.

"The new CAVA service is particularly interesting for customers in the business of fast moving goods, such as producers and exporters of fruits and vegetables, retailers or wine traders," says a release.

"The provided transit times rank among the best in the market; Cartagena is linked to Tilbury in only five days and St. Petersburg is reached six days later, including two stopovers in Antwerp and Rotterdam.

"This does not only underline OPDR’s ability of adapting quickly in a competitive market, but also its role as a leading short sea shipping company."
