USDA restores daily customs reports

After a few weeks of data gaps on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) customs reports, the organization has said that much of the service has been restored.

The reports relate to the movement and pricing of produce items, and are depended on by many U.S. companies in the industry to make business decisions.

A notice on the AMS website said daily information for shipping point, terminal market, and shipments through customs reports had now been restored.

"We are working to resolve some missing weekly shipping point and movement information issues and will update this notice when it has been completed.  We apologize for the inconvenience," the notice said.

In late May the entity said there were 'some gaps in the data from May 15 to May 27, 2016 as well as for some historical data for movement' and that it was working to resolve the problem.

It remains unclear why problems arose in the first place.
