California-based Wonderful Citrus has acquired Florida's largest citrus marketing and export companies, in the form of DNE World Fruit and DNE International, as well as the assets of DNE Imports division World Pack Cold Storage.

In a release, Wonderful and DNE highlighted the deal included DNE's citrus marketing and import business, along with World Pack’s cold storage, bagging, repack and distribution center in New Jersey.

The purchase is expected to make Wonderful Citrus the USA's leading importer of counter-seasonal citrus products, while it also doubles the group's grapefruit position.

"The addition of DNE and World Pack to the Wonderful Citrus family significantly enhances our ability to serve customers year round with a variety of fresh citrus offerings," Wonderful Citrus president David Krause said in a release.

"We’re thrilled that this makes us the top grapefruit distributor in America and allows us to serve as the exclusive marketer for all of DNE’s Florida citrus."

DNE World Fruit president Greg Nelson described Wonderful Citrus as a "well-respected leader within the fresh citrus industry".

"The opportunity to significantly expand our sales reach and access new markets was a very attractive part of this deal," Nelson said.

"We look forward to teaming up with Wonderful to better leverage our collective strengths in the global citrus marketplace."

DNE’s sales employees will be offered positions with Wonderful Citrus and Greg Nelson will stay on with the company as an advisor.

The deal marks Wonderful Citrus' second acquisition in the space of 12 months, with the April purchase of Texas-based Persian lime distributor I. Kunik Company as well as Mexican-based B&S Grupo Exportador, S.A. de C.V.
