Argentina's National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) plans to expand its horizons with a South African project to be launched in the next two weeks.

The institute announced it would be working in four experimental areas on the Southern Hemisphere competitor's home turf, with the goal of sharing knowledge and finding new business opportunities.

INTA president Carlos Casamiquela signed an agreement to start the trials, in the presence of several Argentine companies and officials, as well as South African cooperative Grain S.A.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed with the South African Business Centre.

"We are formalizing a research and trade project for the future - the INTA is very happy to have regained a leading role in the development of the country, in a way that science and technology yield the necessary support to give solvency to our industry," said Casamiquela.

INTA precision agriculture coordinator Mario Bragachini, said for Argentina to continue competing in global markets it was necessary to 'internationalize' its companies, which was a complex and 'never ending' process.

CĆ³rdoba Industrial Minister Roberto Avalle said the agreements would bring a 'new horizon' through regional integration.

"They signify a new challenge for businesses and its the responsibility of regional and local governments to adapt policies that make new paths and venture into producing in other countries," he said.
