Peruvian president vows to provide foreign investment guarantees

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala has declared the country will be able to continue on its path of economic development, include all citizens and respect its trade agreements.

Speaking at an APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Business Advisory Meeting in Lima, the new president said both local and foreign entrepreneurs would be given all the facilities and guarantees to help develop their industries Peru.

"Peru respects what it signs, puts clear laws in place and fights against corruption," Humala was quoted as saying.

He said countries in the Asia-Pacific region needed to make the most of the global situation to improve their economies. He highlighted that while Peru had natural resources, this was not enough to improve the lives of everyone, spurring a need for investment in technology.

Humala also expressed his concern in resolving some 200 conflicts that have affected both the country and investments, but the government was making efforts to overcome these challenges.

He said the relationships between private companies - especially in the mining sector - and the state would soon be clarified.

The president gave thanks to both local and foreign companies for the support they give to the state in encouraging the market.
