Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 49 – 2012 (Dec. 7)

Avocados

In North America, the U.S. market was stable and showed no price changes for the Chilean offer. Mexico experienced some adjustments.

In Europe, reports from France indicated that sales were suitable for Chilean Hass. In the UK, there was high supply compared to consumption, especially for green varieties.

Blueberries

In North America, there was low supply and stable prices in the U.S.

In Europe, the first sales for Chilean fruit were recorded with good quality and high prices.

In Asia, there was active movement in all markets.

Cherries

In North America, movement was slow in the U.S. with dissonance regarding selling prices. Prices remained high despite buyer efforts to lower them.

In Europe, the market was characterized by slow sales. There were high prices and low consumer activity in both the mainland and the U.K.

In Latin America, there was variability in the supply quality from Brazil. A similar situation was observed in Colombia. Both markets had adequate sales.

In Asia, the supply level was low, allowing price stability.

Grapes

In North America, the U.S. reported less local fruit than last year, but more than agents had expected. The market continued with high prices and low sales activity.

In Europe, the market continued to receive a low supply with shipments at that time arriving from Namibia. Even so, arrivals remained low, allowing price stability.

In Asia, a high level of local fruit was seen in Taiwan, leaving little room for imported supply. In China, good quality and movement were reported regarding the U.S. offer.

In Latin America, the market was supplied with local fruit, mainly from the northeast.

Stonefruit

In North America, there was a low supply and high prices for stonefruit in the U.S. market.

In Europe, the market was supplied with South African fruit. Slow activity was reported, but it was sufficient enough to move arrivals.

In Latin America, the Colombian market began to take on the Chilean supply. Brazil had limited volumes from Chile. First sales were expected this week.
