Jac. Vandenberg celebrates 120th anniversary with expansion of SUNRAYS citrus line at IFPA

The family-owned and operated import company Jac. Vandenberg, Inc. will celebrate its 120th anniversary with a major debut at this year’s International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Show.

Founded in 1905 in Groningen, The Netherlands, Jac. Vandenberg has been shaped by three core principlesfamily, freshness, and innovation—which have also driven the company’s growth and leadership within the produce industry.

“As a family business, we have something that can’t be replicated by large corporate playersgenerational knowledge,” said John Paap, Manager at Jac. Vandenberg. “There’s a thread connecting us to the family members who came before, a depth of experience built through relationships and lived history. It’s not something you can learn in a classroom. It’s our secret ingredient, and it’s been central to our success.”

The company was among the first to import Chilean produce to the US, early adopters of Country of Origin labeling and the Produce Traceability Initiative, and innovators in sustainable packaging solutions.

Sunrays' new expansion

In 2017, Vandenberg introduced SUNRAYS—one of the industry’s first giveback brands. With every purchase, consumers support brighter futures for children, promote sustainability, and connect with the growers’ stories. The company proudly calls SUNRAYS “the snack with impact.”

“When we launched the SUNRAYS brand in 2017, we wanted it to be more than just another produce brand. We wanted it to represent impact and purpose,” Paap said. “Now, we’re taking that vision further."

The new SUNRAYS citrus line will debut in Anaheim, giving attendees an exclusive first look at the expanded range. Visitors will see how the program combines vibrant design, sustainability, and purpose—while learning how to integrate these elements into their own retail programs.

Since its launch, SUNRAYS has donated over $700,000 to Save the Children and prevented more than 63,000 pounds of plastic waste from reaching landfills.

IFPA attendees can visit the company at booth #2397.
