European avocado imports hold firm

European avocado imports reached 794 shipments in week 8, a seven percent increase from the prior week and 24 percent higher year-on-year. Volumes remain elevated for this time of the season, Avobook notes in its latest report

Colombia accounted for 25 percent of the supply, followed by Spain (24 percent) and Israel (23 percent). Chile increased shipments by 84 percent week-on-week, while Peru also raised volumes by 25 percent. Moroccan avocado shipments dipped, decreasing by 28 percent.

European avocado imports

In Asia, China reported 32 shipments in week 8, down 35 percent from the previous week. Despite the decline, arrivals remain slightly above year-ago levels. Chile supplied 84 percent of the volume and Peru 16 percent. Prices held steady but trailed last year’s levels.

Peru recorded 106 export departures in week 7, down 27 percent from the prior week and 18 percent below the same week last year. Europe received 93 percent of the volume, reflecting what the data describes as intermittent shipments to China. 

So far this year, China has accounted for 31 percent of Peru’s exports.

After a seasonal adjustment in week 6, the United States avocado market regained momentum in week 7 with 1,573 shipments, up 13 percent from the previous week

The increase confirms the traditional post-Super Bowl rebound in movement. Mexico supplied 98 percent of total arrivals, maintaining its dominant position in the market.
