Hortifrut unwraps "Berry Christmas" in plastic-free push

Hortifrut unwraps

Hortifrut introduced a new holiday blueberry format, Berry Christmas, featuring fully plastic-free packaging and targeting retailers in Europe, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. The company says the launch supports rising demand for seasonal, convenient, and environmentally minded formats while offering retailers a healthier option to position during the Christmas period.

Seasonal play across Europe and LATAM

In Europe, Hortifrut says Berry Christmas builds on its existing line of seasonal in-store concepts across several markets. The company positioned the offering as a response to what it described as consistent demand for responsible packaging and festive-themed produce.

In Latin America, the format forms part of Hortifrut’s market-development strategy to grow domestic demand with locally sourced fruit. The Berry Christmas pack will appear under the Berry Good label in Chile, Colombia, and Brazil.

“This launch reflects our close relationship with customers and consumers, and our ability to anticipate what they are looking for during this season: freshness, convenience, and sustainable packaging. Our goal is to bring these innovations to all our markets, because we know many consumers already view blueberries as a ‘healthy sweet’ alternative,” says Stephanie Giorgi, Global Marketing Director at Hortifrut. “And in Latin America, we will market it under a single brand, Berry Good, to strengthen recognition and build a clearer emotional connection with the brand.”

Jorge Lima, General Manager of Hortifrut LATAM, adds: “In Latin America, we continue to develop the category with proposals that drive traffic, rotation, and value at the point of sale. Berry Christmas is a format that connects with our consumers through the emotion of the holiday season, the flavor and health benefits of berries, and reinforces our commitment to the environment”.

Hortifrut, a certified B Corp, said the plastic-free pack demonstrates its commitment to integrating social and environmental considerations into its operations.
