Camposol inaugurates new biofactory

Multinational fresh food grower and distributor Camposol opened the doors of its new biofactory in Peru.

The company says the facility will strengthen the company's genetic development and enable it to scale its growth plan in new crop areas more efficiently.

The 21,500-square-foot facility, located in Peru's Chao, Virú (Trujillo), has an annual production capacity of up to 5 million blueberry plants and integrates in vitro and ex vitro production within the same space using biotechnology.

Camposol says the in vitro production area combines conventional methods with bioreactors to achieve high propagation rates while significantly reducing time and resource use.

All steps of the process are carried out through traditional (non-GMO) breeding methods.

The ex vitro production area uses European growth chamber technology to control temperature, humidity, CO2, and lighting precisely. This optimizes seedling acclimatization, including rooting, growth, and hardening, before transfer to the nursery and production fields, according to Camposol.

The operation is carried out by a highly specialized team with extensive experience in tissue culture and plant biotechnology.

According to the company, the new biofactory supports its plans to plant new hectares with proprietary blueberry genetics and replant existing areas with more competitive varieties tailored to local conditions and international market demands.

“This biofactory is a key tool for our future growth,” added Ricardo Naranjo. “It gives us independence and the ability to ensure the availability of the plants needed to execute our strategic expansion and consolidation plan. With this new infrastructure, we strengthen our position as a solid, innovative agro-industrial company.”
