NZ kiwifruit season shows delays

New Zealand kiwifruit grower and packer has told Radio New Zealand the country's season is running two to three weeks behind normal.

Seeka CEO Michael Frank told the broadcaster the crop was actually of good quality and size with few rejects, but problems with vine disease Psa meant the harvest was down 50%.

He added that harvesters were working on harvesting infected orchards so that the crop could quickly get to the managed environment of cold storage, the story reported.

He told the broadcaster the company was still likely to finish harvesting in early June before frosts arrive.
