Spanish citrus pioneer Juan Gual Granell passes away at 95
Burriana native Juan Gual Granell, who made a name for himself by pioneering the export of Spanish citrus in the US with his company, Bagu, passed away at 95.
The firm announced Gual Granell's passing on social media, writing: "The Bagu family is left orphaned, carrying forward the legacy and passion he passed on to all of us."

Experts in clementines, oranges, and satsumas, the company was founded in 1920 by Bautista Gual. But it wasn't until Juan Gual Granell came along that the company took off internationally, establishing Burriana citrus in the US and transforming the family company into the first Spanish private firm to export clementines to North America, reported local newspaper El Periodico Mediterraneo.
The firm has since consolidated its presence in more than a dozen countries, with a strong footprint in markets such as Belgium, England, and Canada.
