U.S.: First Aussie Calypso mangoes to arrive this weekend

U.S.-based fruit distributor Giumarra is expecting the first Calypso-branded Australian mangoes of the season to arrive via air on Dec. 17, to be offered in single layor cartons ranging from 11 to 14 count.

The company markets the mangoes from Far North Queensland, of the B74 variety, in partnership with Perfection Fresh Australia.

"We are excited to bring the concept of Australia’s ‘juicy little secret’ to market with this distinct, flavorful mango,” said Giumarra Companies VP Southern Hemisphere, Craig Uchizono, in a release.calypso-mangoes

"The Calypso® Mango has fiber-free flesh and a smaller seed, so there is more fruit for consumers to enjoy in every mango."

This marks the third season Giumarra is importing the unique variety from Australia.

The company highlighted the mango's pleasing pink to red blush with a warm yellow background when ripe, along with a sweet and creamy flavor with a firm, smooth texture ideal for a variety of uses.

The fruit is currently being harvested and will be available though the end of January 2017, and Giumarra will be offering a variety of point-of-sale materials and recipes to help promote the fruit.
