Spanish company expands to Brazilian market

Spanish fruit company Agromolinillo has decided to expand its export scope to Brazil this year, shipping 1,000kg (2,200lbs) of blueberries to the South American nation until the start of May, Europa Press reported.

Source told Europa Press the company expected to ship 2,000kg (4,400lbs) of blueberries to Brazil by Jun. 15.

Agromolinillo has also exported 40,000kg (88,000lbs) of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries to the Asian markets of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Sources told the media agency the exports were a test run to see if the fruit was accepted in Brazil, where there have been 'difficulties' so far due to 'very restrictive' border controls.

Agromolinillo has set an export figure of 3,000kg (6,600lbs) for Brazil and shipments will continue next year if the fruit is well-received. The company's sales in Asia have slowed since the Spanish E. coli outbreak, the story reported.
