Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 31 — 2011 (Aug. 5)
Apples
In North America, price increases were registered for Chilean Royal Gala apples in the U.S.
In Latin America, price adjustments were seen in Mexico, the Colombian market remained active and low Granny Smith volumes were reported in Brazil.
In Europe, moderate trading was seen on the continent while healthy sales pace was reported in the U.K. and Russia.
In the Middle East, good activity was observed for Southern Hemisphere supply in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
In Asia, Taiwanese importers remained concerned about the high stock of Chilean Fuji apples, while Southern Hemisphere supply continued to be limited in India.
Avocadoes
In North America, price increases were registered for Californian Hass in the U.S.
In Latin America, prices continued to be pushed down in the Chilean market with low levels of edible quality Hass avocadoes.
In Europe, sales pace improvement was seen for Southern Hemisphere avocadoes.
Easy Peelers
In North America, sales activity was adequate given current availability in the U.S., while the 10*3lb format still registered the highest sales rates.
In Europe, Argentine Nadorcott mandarins observed better trade than other varieties.
In the Middle East, moderate sales pace was reported.
In Asia, good sales activity and variable prices were seen for South African novas in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, while easy peeler availability was scarce in Japan.
Kiwifruit
In North America, moderate sales activity continued for Chilean Hayward kiwifruit in the U.S. due to the preference for New Zealand fruit.
In Latin America, price increases for Chilean Haywards were reported in Brazil and Colombia.
In Europe, arrivals of Chilean kiwifruit decreased, leading to higher inventory rotation.
In Asia, better sales pace was registered for imported kiwifruit in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
Lemons
In North America, good sales pace was registered in the U.S. with continued stable prices for Chilean supply.
In Europe, lower sales activity was reported on the continent.
In the Middle East, price adjustments were reported for imported lemons in Saudi Arabia.
In Asia, markets were active but there were concerns for higher lemon volumes that were expected to arrive in Japan.
Oranges
