Go big or go jumbo—Mission Produce brings its jumbo avocado and mango supply to NEPC Expo

Fresh produce grower and distributor, Mission Produce, will showcase its jumbo avocados and mangoes at booth 117 at the New England Produce Council (NEPC) Expo in Boston, Massachusetts. The event will take place at the Encore Boston Harbor hotel from August 18 to 19. 

“Size is not only a key indicator of quality to avocado and mango shoppers—it’s a profit driver," said Galen Johnson, Senior Director of Sales. "Whether through bulk or bagged programs, NEPC is the perfect venue to connect with our partners and explore how to maximize this moment.”

In a press release, the executive added that the company's supply of jumbo avocados and mangoes provides a timely opportunity for retailers to leverage larger sizes to drive incremental sales and attract high-value shoppers.

Mission's vertically integrated farms in Peru are producing strong volumes of jumbo avocados this season. Additionally, Mexico’s upcoming avocado size curve is leaning heavily on 48s and larger, and nearly half of Mexico’s Kent mango crop consists of sizes 6 and larger.

Size does matter

According to Mission, Jumbo avocados (sizes 36, 32, and 28) yield more than twice the edible volume of smaller sizes (96, 84, 70, 60), delivering clear value for consumers. 

Retailers adding jumbo bulk or bagged avocados have historically seen substantial category growth, including dollar lifts up to 29 percent and minimal cannibalization of smaller fruit.

When it comes to mangoes, jumbo sizes (6 and larger) offer retailers a premium option, appealing to over one-third of mango shoppers who prefer larger mangos, says Mission.  And there's no wonder—these larger sizes carry a 73 percent price premium over smaller sizes, representing an opportunity to drive incremental revenue.
