Avocado market swings, highlighting regional differences

Last week, the international avocado trade revealed notable variation in shipment volumes and market share among key regions.

Intelligence firm Avobook’s Week 46 report notes a modest one percent decline in imports to the United States, totalling 1,429 shipments.  Despite this dip, overall volumes remain eleven percent higher year-on-year.

Mexico continues to dominate the US market, supplying 95 percent of total shipments. Prices across all sizes fell, with particularly sharp declines in larger-sized fruit.

Europe saw an increase in arrivals, with 711 shipments, up eight percent from the prior week and 16 percent year-on-year. Chile maintained its lead with a 44 percent market share, followed by Morocco and Colombia, each with a 19 percent share.

Additionally, South African weekly exports declined by more than 60 percent during the same period.

China posts strong gain on Chilean supplies

Meanwhile, Chinat saw 46 avocado shipments from Chile in week 46, marking a 96 percent rise from the previous week and doubling 2024’s volumes.

Chilean exports for the week reached 307 containers, representing a 17 percent weekly decrease. However, the numbers remain 14 percent above those of the same week last year.
