Apple giant VOG appoints Harald Weis as new chairman
World-renowned apple producer and distributor VOG named Harald Weis as chairman of the historic South Tyrolean apple farming cooperative.
“I want to continue to work in the interests of our farmers," the executive said after his appointment. "In a globalized world, the combination of a strong association and centralized marketing is imperative for the success of our fruit sector.”
Weis takes over the reins from Georg Kössler, who, after 17 years heading the Consortium of South Tyrolean Fruit Growers’ Cooperatives, has decided to step down.
According to a company press release, the appointment guarantees the operational and strategic continuity of VOG, which remains committed to the over 4,000 member apple farmers.
Formerly vice chairman of VOG and a native of Termeno, Italy, Weis was unanimously elected chairman during the company's latest general meeting, a testament to the 55-year-old's experience in the South Tyrolean apple-growing sector.
Unparalleled expertise always at the head of VOG
At the helm of VOG since 2008, Kössler oversaw the consortium during a key growth phase.
The company adopted a forward-looking approach during his tenure, featuring vertical supply chain integration and untiring varietal and brand innovation. This has enabled the consortium to boast a wide, diversified range, offering the right apple 12 months a year.
“I look back at lots of very busy years in which we managed to make important changes”, says Kössler. " Today, VOG represents a leading European apple farming region that is dedicated to quality. The strong sense of cohesion within our community makes me optimistic for the future.”
