Avocado volumes poised to smash 3 billion pound record in 2025
Everyone's favorite toast topping may soon claim even more space on US produce shelves, with the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) projecting that shipments will bring avocado volumes to surpass three billion pounds by the end of 2025. The unprecedented avocado volumes signal just how deeply the “green gold” has rooted in American eating habits.
“This is a landmark moment for the avocado industry,” says HAB Executive Director Emiliano Escobedo. “Surpassing 3 billion pounds is not just a number—it’s a testament to the tireless efforts of producers, importers, and marketers who have worked together to meet the growing demand for avocados in the US market.”
From specialty fruit to household staple

HAB says the projected avocado volume represents a four percent increase from 2024 and reflects the ongoing consumer interest in avocados as a versatile, nutrient-dense product. The organization attributes the growth to coordinated promotions, enhanced supply-chain management, and sustained work to ensure year-round quality and availability.
The board has put “tremendous amounts of hard work and collaboration across the industry to transform avocados from being a misunderstood specialty fruit to today’s produce aisle powerhouse.” Efforts include the mini-documentary Avocado Nation: An American Success Story, which is now streaming at HassAvocadoBoard.com/HAPRIOImpact.
The piece examines how the business opportunity for avocado producers and importers has changed since the Hass Avocado Promotion, Research and Information Order (HAPRIO) created HAB in 2002.
“Avocados have become a staple in American households, and this milestone reflects how deeply they’re woven into our food culture,” Escobedo adds. “As we look ahead, HAB remains committed to supporting the industry through data-driven insights, strategic marketing, and collaborative innovation.”
Aiming for the next milestone
With multiple-origin sourcing addressing increased demand, the California Avocado Commission (CAC) continues to reinforce the sector's presence through targeted advertising, retail and foodservice collaborations, and storytelling that celebrates the "California lifestyle".
“It’s encouraging to see strong consumer demand driving total US avocado volume beyond 3 billion pounds. California avocado growers are proud to play an important role in that growth while maintaining our focus on producing premium, locally grown fruit," CAC VP of Marketing Terry Splane tells FreshFruitPortal.com. "Our marketing efforts remind shoppers and diners alike that when they see the California label in season, they’re choosing avocados that are locally grown, sustainably farmed, and ethically sourced right here in the Golden State.”
Talking about what makes the state's avocados unique, Splane says it's "the fruit’s freshness—going from grove to market in about three days, the sustainable growing practices of our farmers and their efforts to ensure the fruit is being ethically sourced."
Representing both domestic producers and importers, HAB says it continues to support the category through research, nutrition education, and promotional programs that reinforce supply-chain resilience.
With 2026 right around the corner, the board emphasizes that avocado volumes hitting the 3 billion-pound milestone highlights the category’s momentum and the industry’s coordinated efforts to meet rising US demand.
