New labor certificate to boost Mexican avocado export competitiveness
The Association of Avocado Producers and Exporters of Mexico (APEAM) and the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the implementation of the Agricultural Export Labor Certificate (VELAGRO).
The program seeks to strengthen labor conditions in the Mexican export avocado sector, said APEAM in a press release.
Aspects of the labor certificate
VELAGRO aims to improve labor and social security conditions for agricultural day workers, strengthening traceability and ensuring the competitiveness and operational certainty of the Mexican avocado sector in international markets.
āIt is essential to advance in the labor formalization of field workers. However, it is also fundamental to recognize the reality of small avocado producers and undertake comprehensive actions that guarantee their way of subsistence remains profitable,ā said APEAM president RaĆŗl Ernesto MartĆnez Pulido.
Together with the STPS, APEAM reaffirmed its willingness to address the challenges of the export avocado value chain, to build solutions that strengthen labor compliance, promote sustainability, and maintain Mexico's leadership in global avocado markets.
